Top Ten Tuesday

That Artsy Reader Girl for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday has asked us to choose the book we were reading on August 11 over the past ten years. I’m going to change it a bit to a book I read during the month of August over the past ten years. I can’t find a book I read in August for 2017 (though I know I was reading) but otherwise here is my list:

2023 H Is For Hawk by Helen Macdonald
2024 Thicker Than Water by Maggie Shayne
2025 The Stranger Diaries by Elly Griffiths
2026 London Falling by Patrick Radden Keefe

I want to reread Middlemarch because they say you get even more out of it the second time around. I also want to continue with the next book in Maggie Shayne’s series: Colder Than Ice. And I loved The Stranger Diaries so I must continue with that series as well.

    That’s a good list! You were reading good stuff in August each year. I think my planned Summer Lists are making me read better things than usual. I still need to put Middlemarch in my sights someday. It’s long though … I need to read East of Eden first. I have read 2 on your list above: H Is for Hawk (not too long ago) and A Tree Grows in Brooklyn …

      Hi Susan, when i started the blog I would do the classics challenge every year which accounts for Middlemarch To The Lighthouse A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Reading more contemporary books now (and enjoying it) but I miss the classics challenge a bit because it forces you to read a classic a month.

    I love this prompt and have enjoyed reading about everyone’s books of August.

    I am gearing up for another reread of Middlemarch–I’ve read it 5-6 times since my first time in 1978, and I absolutely love the experience of rereading it every time.

    I also really enjoyed H is for Hawk, and I have been meaning to read her next book for years now. Maybe next year!

    Hi Jane I must read Middlemarch again because I hear you get so much out of it the second time. Ditto Jane Eyre.

    That is an interesting list of books for the last ten years.

    I read Middlemarch in June and July this year and it was a struggle for the first half of the book. It took me somewhere between 3-4 weeks to read. I was very glad I read it and I do plan to read it again, but I was not happy devoting that much time to one book.

    I liked a Morbid Taste for Bones, and have read several more books in that series. And I have H is for Hawk on my shelves, to read someday.

      Hi Tracy, I want to try Middlemarch again because I hear the second time the book really opens up for readers. But I agree it is long. Regarding H is for Hawk in my opinion must be read in audio. Its beautifully written but in kindle I struggled. When I read the audio of H is For Hawk wonderfully read by the author it made all the difference.
